My phone went off this morning at 5am. “Good Morning - Seeds That Bless” I said, trying to disguise my morning fog voice. I had been in a deep sleep, so the haze was real. “What did you say?” the voice on the other end of the phone call inquired. “Seeds That Bless. How can I help you? I replied, hoping I sounded a little more chipper and awake! “I must have the wrong number”, was the reply. “What is Seeds That Bless?” he asked.
“Seeds that Bless are powerful positive word cards, that bring, hope, healing and purpose to your life. Do you need a word of encouragement today?” I asked.
There was a long pause…and a change in his lowered soft voice. “Yes, Yes I do. My wife told me she wants a divorce this morning. She says she isn’t going to come home tonight. She says she is in love with someone else. I was trying to call my boss to tell him I can’t come to work today. I don’t know what to do. Everything is so mixed up in my mind.
Can you give me a word of encouragement….please!” he implored.
I picked up a Seeds That Encourage card from the nightstand next to my bed. On the card were the words that I had read first thing in the morning when I woke up and the last thing I read before going to sleep at night. The past year had been very challenging for me with ongoing health issues and worries about finances.
I started to read, “For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11
Another long pause. Then I heard his voice break as he asked, “Is that something it says in the Bible?” “Yes,” I replied. “Will you read it again,” he asked. I slowly re-read the verse, silently praying that each word would touch his heart and mind and bring him a measure of peace for his undeniable heartache. “Thank you,” he said. I needed this so much today. I am so glad I dialed the wrong number.”
What a divine encounter. This story is gentle reminder that we never know when someone might come into your life and need a word of encouragement. Some might see this as an accidental phone call to the wrong number. I choose to see it as a phone call…arranged by God himself!
Plant Hope. Be Encouraged.
